How To Miss Out on True Love in 10 Easy Steps

Several months back, I was talking to a woman I have dubbed “The Preying Mantis of MySpace.”

Please read between the lines for the rest of her story.
But my point here is that she was quite rigid in her requirements for suitor behavior, requirements that would fit quite nicely within the pages of an imaginary article entitled “Do it My Way or Hit the Highway.”

Yes indeed, I found the love of my life by ignoring all the rules, requirements, and rigidity of dating do’s and don’ts, much to my joy and her chagrin.

Here’s what I learned (and gained) along the way:

    not role easily from his mouth. 

 I have never had someone who cares for me with intensity and consistency as demonstrated by his actions.

 He is centered and secure in himself and his life which translates into a man who is emotionally strong and together.

  1. He drives an old car and doesn’t make enough money.

 He lives a simple, authentic life full of warmth, richness and peace.

  1. He isn’t affectionate enough – I need someone who makes love to me every day.

 He looks at me with an intensity that surpasses love making, and his touch fills me with security and contentment.

  1. He’s dull, no excitement, no drama.

 He’s steady, dependable, and level headed.

  1. He is always full of surprises.

 What you see is what you get and that’s the way I like it.

  1. I like it when after teasing him, he ravages my body in public.

 I like the comfy quiet of being cozy in an appropriate place, thus respecting one another’s space and bodies.

  1. He only wants me when I look sexy and hot.

 He may pat my fat ass and comment on my old sweats, but he’s beside me steadfast and strong.

  1. He introduced me to family and friends right away, but it was in a bar and everyone was pretty wasted.

 He took his time introducing me to his family and friends, but when he finally did, I knew it was an extraordinarily meaningful event.

  1. I think he’s playing around with other girls on MySpace.

 He is as loyal, faithful, and dependable as the millennium is long!

In addition to being an author, Donovan was a college professor and taught writing and literature courses for 10 years. During that time, she met scores of young people who provided inspiration.
